Going to the Public Library Association Conference? Come meet up with us on Friday night! #PLAMakerMeetup
The Toolkit (Still in the Making...)
Throughout this multi-phase pilot project we are drawing from best practices in the field of experiential learning and the maker movement to create and customize a set of makerspace planning and development tools for public libraries.
These tools are living documents (linked below) and still in the making. Our ten libraries continue to use the tools and provide feedback as we refine them. From needs assessment to asset mapping to budget planning to designing activities, this toolkit will provide a wealth of practical advice, photos and introduce a process to develop a community specific program for making. We plan to publish a fully designed and accessible Developing Makerspaces Toolkit, free to anyone as a pdf publication by August 2020 via the California State Library website.
We invite your feedback on these tools, too. Please submit your ideas and link to any relevant resources and examples in the comment thread under each tool. Thank you!
